Interviews // Nick Alvarez

Post by Patience Moran on Sun Apr 20, 2014 8:23 pm

Patience was in her and Maria's office, she was here to perform a interview of a potential new recruit. This man had been in the London incident, he had came to S.H.I.E.L.D's attention during that whole dreadful incident. Patience thought as she waited for the interviewee to arrive in the office. Patience was here to do the interview instead of her boss, Deputy Director Maria Hill due to the Deputy Director's vacation, it seemed she had decided to cash in her vacation at the same time as Agent Philip Coulson. A rather interesting coincidence Patience thought as she waited.

Patience waited, she was waiting for this Nick Alvarez to arrive at her office, to conduct this interview. Patience was bored and slightly annoyed thinking that she had better stuff to do, like actual paperwork, instead of interviewing the application of another rookie. Another damn rookie, SHIELD had enough of those already. Patience started to read this applicants file again, and had already came to the decision that this person was not suitable for Patience's true allegiance. HYDRA could not use this new recruit, well even if this person was suitable for HYDRA in his goals and personality, Patience had decided that his skills would not be of use to HYDRA, a FBI agent, HYDRA did not need those, they already had enough of those.

Patience waited and was bored, she hoped this applicant arrived quickly, and that this application went through quickly, she had much more important things to do. Lets get this done, finish this interview, see if the person could become a asset for SHIELD, if yes, Patience would determine if the man would become a threat to HYDRA. If the first was yes, and the second was no, Patience would likely send her recommendation of his hiring to the Deputy Director whom would approve or deny the application once she returned.

Re: Interviews // Nick Alvarez

Post by Nick Alvarez on Sun Apr 20, 2014 10:11 pm

Mr. Nick Alvarez entered the SHIELD UK Base and was being escorted to the office of one Maria Hill by a Junior Agent who introduced herself as Kim Possible. Quite a young woman to be joining an organization like SHIELD, at least from the little that he had heard of it. Following her lead through the building, the Latino wondered what her story was, why she was chosen to become an Agent. But he didn't waste too much time thinking about it, because for once, he wasn't even sure why he was here.

He had been summoned to come to an interview with Deputy Director Maria Hill, because his help during the London attack had caught their interest, although in his opinion he didn't do that much outstanding work. Who was he to judge, though?

Shrugging it off, Nick looked at the young woman leading him to the office that the interview would take place in. She turned and gave him a small, friendly smile, which he could only return. He was a friendly male after all and though she was way too young for him, he still thought that she was quite attractive. At least that was what other males probably thought, too. "Who knows what skills she has, better not go and make her mad." Nick thought to himself, just as the teenager stopped in front of a door.

"Here we are, sir." Kim said, turning to face Nick. "Good Luck and maybe I'll see you around here more often."

Nick nodded, a small smile on his lips, just for her. Maybe she would see him around more often, but then again... he'd be the rookie and learning the ropes she probably already learned. And it was the not knowing what to expect, that made Nick just a slight bit nervous right now. "Thank you, Miss Possible."

Watching the young woman then take her leave, Nick turned and knocked at the door, waiting to be called in. He had absolutely no idea of what to expect and it was making him a little bit uncertain. And that itself confused the usually confident Latino male, because he usually wasn't feeling uncertain of himself. But he'd be back in his saddle in no time. Or so he was hoping...

Patience took a moment to examine the person whom she would interview before she stood up from her chair, walked over and extended her hand to him. "Patience Moran, I am the Deputy Director's secretary, I apologize but she is on vacation, thus I will be handling your interview instead." Patience said in a faux friendly tone, she was polite, but she was hardly friendly to most people, most agents of SHIELD understood that, she was on the list of people whom you simply do not attempt to anger if you value your life. Patience then walked back to her seat and took a seat once more.

Patience motioned for this FBI agent to take a seat, she had a rather low opinion of the FBI in general, they seemed to have rather boring, they followed certain protocols a bit too much for Patience's liking, they did not understand the more efficient methods that SHIELD used. "Nicholas Mateo Alvarez, 33, son of Christina and Rodrigo Alvarez, you are here for a interview as a potential candidate for a position in the Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division." Patience said calmly as she read from a file, she then added, "What are your qualifications, and why do you think you think you can work for SHIELD?"

Re: Interviews // Nick Alvarez

Post by Nick Alvarez on Mon Apr 21, 2014 10:23 pm

Nick, the charming Latino that he was, offered Patience a warm, charming smile while he shook her hand in greeting. Not that he was hoping to gain some bonus points for her to like him with that smile, but he couldn't help it. It was just his natural thing to do. And she was an attractive woman after all. However, being here for something serious, he pushed any thoughts of that aside and focused on listening to what she told him.

So, they wanted to recruit him for SHIELD. Well... he sort of figured that this was why he was summoned to come here, but Nick actually hadn't given it that much thought yet. A career change wasn't exactly what he had in mind, but maybe it was time to value his oportunities and maybe take a chance. Since he was transferred to London, his work wasn't as interesting as it used to be, especially since his old partner had to stay behind and he barely even knew anyone in London. And working for another agency who actually tried to safe the world from invations of whatever nature, that sounded like a real adventure for the FBI agent.

"Uh..." Nick started, thinking about the question for a moment. "Well, I didn't quite expect a career change, so... I don't know. What's the file say about my qualities?"

Okay, that question wasn't actually meant serious. He really had no idea what would qualify him to work for SHIELD, except that he was a well trained FBI Agent, had no family of his own, except his parents, sister and niece and he didn't mind travelling that much, as long as he got to see his family once in a while. But was that enough?
"Well, I've worked for the FBI for more than 10 years. I don't mind travelling, am well-trained in the use of firearms and capable of a self-defense technique called Zen Do Kai." Nick just said it, seeing if that would be enough for a start. "And I got no wife or kids..."

"The file says that you have a exemplary record, but SHIELD is not looking for exemplary records, we are looking for talent." Patience said with a slight frown, she did not appreciate this sort of question, it was simply a stupid question and showed a lack of confidence in this sort of thing. Well this conversation certainly started with a good start, Patience thought as she turned her frown back into a smile, best make things appear civil. "Files can be fabricated, SHIELD knows, we do it all the time, so a file is worthless in this sort of thing." Patience said as she started to twirl a pencil in her hand and look at this Nicholas Alvarez with disdain, he currently did not display anything that showed quality for SHIELD.

"Well trained, that is good, but SHIELD already has its fair share of talent in that aspect, more soldiers can be useful at times, but SHIELD does not require more right now. Patience said honestly, she did not see why SHIELD needed anymore soldiers, she then added "The lack of a wife or child is good, those can be troublesome, finally a aspect that can be useful." Patience then putted down the file and said "Now your talents as a investigator may be useful, tell me more about those, SHIELD distinctly lack investigators right now, many of them had suffered a unfortunate end due to a damaging attack."

"Uh, that question about my file wasn't actually meant seriously." Nick commented upon noticing the frown on Patience's face. "Way to go... shouldn't have said it in the first place, now I made a total moron of myself." Nick thought, squeezing his lower lip between his teeth, Nick's upper lip covering that, though.

How was he supposed to know what qualities he had that would be useful for SHIELD? He didn't even know that they were interested in hiring him, when he first came to the interview. The Latino male didn't know what to expect, so how was he supposed to make a useful impression? Maybe his connections to certain people in the US and his abilities as an investigator really would help him not to make an idiot of himself.

"Well..." Nick started, his voice now professional and confident. "I've worked with the FBI for over 10 years now. While it seems like I only focus on the obvious things, I actually do notice the small details, too. Like you took my question about the file serious... although you thought it was a stupid question, judging by the frown you had on your face there for a moment."

That little presentation of his observatory skills should help him seem somewhat qualified. Although it probably wasn't enough, so he still had to find some more things that came in handy and could be an asset to an organization like SHIELD. How did he actually do his work as an investigator?
"On top of that, I tend to take a step back and look at things again, trying to find another perspective if I get stuck in an investigation. I also have experience in undercover operations... and I speak Spanish, maybe that comes in handy sometime. Also my years as an Agent had me collect quite the list of people with connections that still owe me a favor, which always comes in handy, when you need certain information you can't get any other way."

Re: Interviews // Nick Alvarez

Post by Patience Moran on Wed Apr 23, 2014 4:19 pm

"SHIELD does not need jokers, we have enough of those, thank you." Patience without bothering to look at this Alvarez when she spoke, this interview was certainly going well, she was already beginning to dislike this person, Patience did not like it when people joked around in serious matters. "If we wanted jokers Mister Alvarez, we would have hired Mister Stark full time as the agencies jester." Patience said with her voice dripping with sarcasm, Patience could not wait for this interview to be over and she could get back to working properly.
"That's good, I have to admit I did take your comment with a degree of seriousness, SHIELD is not for joking around." Patience was slightly impressed that this person noticed her brief change in expression, and that he had the courage to mention his observation. Most of SHIELD was too terrified of SHIELD's high command to mention anything they think may anger them, the rookies and interviewee's have not learned that lesson yet. "That is a good observation, so you do have some talent."
Patience listened carefully as Alvarez described his qualifications, she was now paying a bit more attention to this interview, perhaps this person may be a worthwhile addition to the agency? Patience thought as she listened and went back to looked at the file of Mister Alvarez, she then said "Those are good to hear, but I have to ask you one very important question, are you willing to perform morally dubious actions in the name of global security?" This was one of the standard questions, it would not prove if the agent would actually be able to do the morally dubious actions, if they answered no, or if they answered too quickly though, the candidate was almost certainly not suited for SHIELD as a operations agents. "For example, are you willing to execute a hostile when given the order, are you willing to execute him while his child cries at his side? You won't decide at the last second that the child deserves a father and disobey orders?"

Re: Interviews // Nick Alvarez

Post by Nick Alvarez on Sat Apr 26, 2014 4:34 am

"Oh boy... she's a tough one." Nick thought, listening to Patience's replies. He was certainly uncertain about what to make of her. Usually his southern charme got the better of him and he would easily be able to pull someone into a spell, but this time it was a little harder. He didn't feel like his flirtatious nature was going to do him any good here.
Taking a silently deep breath, Nick pushed that part of him aside for now and looked at the quite attractive woman before him with a little more seriousness displayed on his face.

"Point taken." he said in a serious tone. "However... to quote Elbert Hubbard... Do not take life too seriously. You will never get out of it alive."

Well, smart man he was to some degree. Besides, if he took everything serious and wasn't joking at all, Nick would probably go mad in no time. Nah, life was way too short to be serious all the time. But she had a point, one should choose carefully what to take serious and what not to take serious. And some people did make the wrong choices.

However, the question she asked him, made him thinking for a while. What would he do indeed? That was a tough decision to make, but would he disobey direct orders? Well, maybe if there was an alternate choice that wouldn't mean risking global security. But maybe he wouldn't. Maybe he would try to get the child out of the way first, no child should have to watch people killing each other in the first place. But seriously? Was he ever in any situation like that? "Probably not... but still... a kid needs a father, but if the father is a thread to global security... a hostile, a criminal, then what kind of father would he be anyway?"

"That is a tough one..." Nick eventually said, his face serious as he looked up at Patience, his eyes settled on her face for a little while. "And to be honest, I am not able to answer that question out of context. If there was another way to secure global security without killing the hostile in front of his child, I'd go for that way. But then again, what kind of father is he putting his child in danger? It's a decision that should be made in the context, not beforehand. I'm not a professional killer and probably never going to be."

Well, that answer had to be good enough. Either he was going to be thrown out right away, or it was good enough for SHIELD's higher ups to give him a chance and take him into training. Not that SHIELD was a bad opportunity, but he did have his moral standards. If there was no other choice, he would have to obey. And that much he just said.

Re: Interviews // Nick Alvarez

Post by Patience Moran on Sat Apr 26, 2014 8:27 pm

"Good, and one must take everything he or she does with the utmost seriousness, joking around simply gets people hurt or worse in this job." Patience said with disdain when this Alvarez tried to justify his jokes. There was a time for joking around and working at SHIELD was no the proper time to joke around at. Patience understood why people liked to joke around, it relieved stress, but at the same time Patience thought that if you needed to joke around to relieve your stress, it simply means that you cannot handle the stress internally until the task is over.
"Good answer, if you simply answered yes immediately, this interview would have ended at that moment, if you answered yes, it would have meant one of two things." Patience said slightly pleased at the answer. this Alvarez did not answer yes immediately, usually the interviewee's answered yes immediately, SHIELD did not need trigger happy morons. she then added, "One, you answered it thinking that it was the answer I wanted to hear, or two, you answered it due to being a trigger happy moron, SHIELD does not want either of those two working under it."
"Here is the scenario, you attacking the target while he is driving his car, his child is in the car, you stop his vehicle, you intend to extract the target, but the enemy responds faster than expected, thus you are unable to extract the target, you now have two choices, execute the target and escape, or simply let the target live and escape." Patience said when Alvarez mentioned that this sort of decision should be made with a context, thus Patience gave him one,  Patience then added "We do not expect you to be a professional killer, we have a specially trained agents for that task."

Re: Interviews // Nick Alvarez

Post by Nick Alvarez on Mon Apr 28, 2014 8:07 am

"Yes ma'am." Nick said quietly. She did have a point with that. But this wasn't going to get people hurt, was it? Oh well.

Nick was a slight bit relieved to hear her reply to his answer of what he would do. Quite honestly, the scenario she gave him was vivid enough for him to work with, however, it didn't quite make the reply any easier. What would he do?
If he just escaped, then global security might be in danger, but if he executed the father in front of his child and then escaped, that child could turn into a serious thread to SHIELD one day and come after them for vengence. If that was what they wanted?

Nick leaned back in his chair and sighed a little, thinking about the scenario. He was a little uncertain about how he should handle this. He did want to make a good impression on Patience, because she would probably decide whether or not he was worthy of working with them, but one look at her right now told him that she was the furthest thing from impressed.

"She is a hard nut to crack... I wonder if she'll eventually warm up." Nick thought for a moment there, before he scolded himself and focused on his task again. "Well... still isn't an easy decision to make. If escape, global security might be endangered. If I just execute the man, his child might become a serious thread for SHIELD, seeking vengence for the father's death. I don't know if that's what we would want." Nick eventually replied. "Maybe I'd just injure the man bad enough, so I may be able to subdue him after all. Spare the child the trouble of watching the father getting killed. And if that doesn't work, I might not have any other chance but to execute him. Still... I would try to find a way somewhat more peaceful. If possible."

Re: Interviews // Nick Alvarez

Post by Patience Moran on Mon Apr 28, 2014 10:29 am

"Thinking outside of the box, that's good Mister Alvarez." Patience said with a slight smile, this Alvarez person was not as dumb as her initial assessment had given her. She was pleased that Alvarez was trying to think outside of the box to solve the problem. That was a good way to think, so this person actually did have some talent. Not much, but it seemed that he was not a total idiot like most of the rookies that Patience had to deal with, so that's a plus. Personally Patience's solution to the problem would have been to execute both the father and the child, preemptively take out threats, not really morally right, but in the end it is for the greater good. Most people would see a monster for that action, but it would be a necessary evil.

"Well Mister Alvarez, if you believe that the child may become a future threat to SHIELD, SHIELD's policy is to preemptively remove the threat, SHIELD is a organization that must do very questionable actions, but we do it in the name of the greater good." Patience said as she returned to her grim exterior. Patience was now explaining that SHIELD would have to do alot of questionable actions. "You are a FBI agent, but you must understand that SHIELD may not strictly obey the laws, we must do things which may seem illegal or immoral at times, but it is all for the greater good."

Patience had to explain that SHIELD was going to do questionable actions, lest Mister Alvarez have a moral dilemna in the middle of a operation. Patience was going to do a preliminary assessment on whether Alvarez had the proper fortitude to work in SHIELD. SHIELD was not a shining knight, it was not a organization of unquestionable good, things in the world were not black and white, the world was grey, and SHIELD was grey.

Re: Interviews // Nick Alvarez

Post by Nick Alvarez on Sat May 10, 2014 2:10 am

A barely visible smile flashed over his face, hearing that comment from Patience. To him she seemed to be a little cold right now, but it was probably just a part of her job. After all, from what he knew about SHIELD, things weren't always rosy and sunny, not to mention that there was no time to smile when you had to be serious. In fact, it gave Nick a pretty good picture of what working for SHIELD would actually mean.

"Questionable things... not exactly new to me." Nick thought to himself, while he was listening to what else she had to tell him. Not that he was an actual law-breaker, but he did do questionable things in his line of work, too, if it helped the ends. And it was for the greater good then, too. Well, the greater good of his then pretty small world. If he was working for SHIELD, Nick realised that his world would become a lot bigger.

“So the ends do justify the means.” Nick said eventually. “That shouldn't be a problem. It's not like I'm a strictly by the book kinda guy. And I do know that the world isn't black and white. Just that my world as an FBI Agent is pretty small compared to what it would be like if I was working for SHIELD.”

Re: Interviews // Nick Alvarez

Post by Patience Moran on Sat May 10, 2014 8:59 pm

"Those whom think the world is neatly separated into the black and the white, they are naive and have no place in this organization." Patience was finally beginning to like this interviewee a bit, he was certainly brighter than he looked and brighter than the typical people Patience dealt with. This person may be of use to the organization after all, and this interview may not be a waste of her time, Patience thought, she was slightly surprised. Her original assesment was that this interview would be a fiasco, the beginning of it certainly supported her initial assessment.

"Yes the ends justify the means, sometime we must perform acts of evil, but those acts are the lesser evil, in the end our goals our to protect the world and ensure it is a safe place to live in." The world would certainly be a safer place to live in once HYDRA was in control, the world would have order and stability, it would have a one world order. Chaos would be gone, threats to the stability of the world can be quickly dealt with. Patience took a moment to think whether she should recommend that SHIELD hire this Alvarez, and decided in the end that Alvarez would be a useful addition to SHIELD until HYDRA decides to come out of the shadows.

"Well, I have to say you surprised me Mister Alvarez, you may actually be a useful addition to this organization." Patience said with a slight smile, she then added "Usually interviewee's are forcefully evicted from this office after making one too many mess ups, apart from your ill timed humour, you seem to have passed most of the initial assessments rather well." Patience was really sure what to think about this, this Alvarez seems like a useful addition to SHIELD and a pleasant person, that is if he lost the humour.

Re: Interviews // Nick Alvarez

Post by Nick Alvarez on Sat May 17, 2014 7:46 am

A small nod accompanied Patience's first comment. There wasn't much he could add to that anyway. After all, when he first came to this interview he actually didn't quite know what to expect. And apart from his humour that seemed to be a little out of place at the beginning of the interview, he felt confident now that he presented himself quite well. He wasn't as dumb as people often seemed to assume, just because he was Latino. Or for whatever reason. Although, he could give people the wrong impression about himself, if he figured it would give him an advantage. Sometimes, acting dumber than you were could be helpful. Still, he couldn't be too sure of himself. That would probably ruin his brownie-points that he just collected.

"Don't we all... except for the bad guys of course."  Nick commented seriously, yet with a lighter note to his voice. If that was the goal for SHIELD, making sure the world was a safe place to live in, then this would be a good place for Nick to be. He was all about safety for the world he lived in, yet he still remained sceptic about certain events that happened in the world and in America. He wasn't one to follow the “all-muslims-are-terrorists” kind of belief that so many people did seem to follow. He assumed the danger for the safety of the world came from the very different people. Probably the very people who created that belief, but he was smart enough to keep his mouth shut about it. It wouldn't get him anywhere. Not here and it certainly wouldn't have helped in his career as an FBI Agent either.

"In that case I am relieved to hear I presented myself well enough in the end." Nick replied politely, yet actually being honest about it. With his first impression of Patience, he didn't want to know what would have happened if he didn't do as well in this interview as he seemed to have done. “Better not get on her bad side.” the Latino male thought to himself.

Post by Patience Moran on Sat May 17, 2014 9:02 pm

"Well Mister Alvarez, I think we got the basics done for this interview, I'll be ending it now and submitting this to the higher ups." Patience said while putting up a smile and started to everything she had on the table back into folders. Patience had decided that she would recommend hiring Mister Alvarez, it was not like he would be a threat to HYDRA, not at all, but at the same time, HYDRA and SHIELD could use him and his skills for the time being. Once Patience was finished, she placed the folders back into her drawers of her desk and added "I will contact you as soon as my superiors either approve or deny your recruitment."

Patience then got off from her seat and walked beside Alvarez she then extended her hand to him and said "Well thank you for coming, and in the future if your recruitment is approved, lose the humour while on the job." The humour was not something you needed while on the job for SHIELD. SHIELD agents are to remain serious under most conditions. SHIELD was not the place for comedians and most of the things SHIELD did practically required the agents to be serious.

Nick was somewhat relieved to now know this interview didn't end as bad as it had started. Well, for Nick it didn't start that bad, but judging from the reactions that Patience gave, it didn't start very well.
The male confidently leaned back in his chair just a little bit, listening. He wasn't quite sure why his humour was a bad thing, but if it helped his new career prospect, then he could live with being serious. At least around her then. He'd see how others would react. Sure, he knew when to be serious, but a little lighter mood now and then never hurt. It lightened the spirits and sometimes it helped to get over certain events.

“Sounds good to me.” Nick replied, getting up from his chair as well. After all, he was raised a gentleman. Taking her hand he said “Thanks for having me. I look forward to hearing from you again. And if I do get accepted... I'll make sure to manage my humour.”

Well, since he hadn't actually been thinking about a change of career, he wasn't certain what was coming now or what his next steps would be, but he knew this much: if SHIELD accepted him into their ranks, he felt that it was a great opportunity for him to really make a difference. Not that he wasn't happy with the job he currently had, but this was a huge chance. Who would turn down an offer from SHIELD? “You'd be a fool, Nick.”

"Well, I will lead you out of the base, and contact you as soon as my bosses have made the decision on whether or not you will be recruited into SHIELD." Patience said as she retracted her hand and started to walk to the door. Patience did have a sense of humour, she just tended to suppress any humour that is not sarcasm when she is working on a official capacity. "I do have to congratulate you, you have not annoyed me to the level some other potential recruits have, they are now spending a nice vacation in a black site." Patience joked while maintaining a serious face, she was no longer performing a interview on Mister Alvarez, thus she may loosen up a tiny bit.

Patience then walked over to the door, opened it and exited her office. Patience then stood outside her office waiting for Mister Alvarez. Patience saw a degree of competence in Mister Alvarez, thus she would not be openly hostile to him. To be honest, she sort of found Alvarez to be amusing. A sense of humour can be useful at times, Patience had to admit.

“Thank you.” Nick exhaled in relief, although he didn't even notice that he was holding his breath. Probably just because he was actually the kind of guy who listened to what he was being told. Well, right now, he was relieved that he did not have to go to that 'black place'. And relieved that Miss Moran did seem to have at least some kind of humour. Even if it was just a sarcastic one. Humour was humour.
“Well, in that case I'm glad to hear that.” he replied while he followed her out of the office. Maybe she wasn't so serious after all. She might even be fun to be around, but that remained to be seen, if there was a future in SHIELD for Nick.

“Say... how long do you work for SHIELD? It seems like you've been here for a while.”
Well, maybe that was a lame attempt at some small talk, but hey... it was common ground for now and he wasn't even sure that Patience would want to talk to him about other things than just business. And besides... he really was curious about it.

"Well Mister Alvarez, you should be depressed that I have not sent you to a blacksite, they are wonderful places, full of sunshine and rainbows." Patience said as she walked toward the exit of the base, at the same time she kept a close eye on Alvarez, incase he wandered off. "Mister Alvarez, Stay chose and take care not to wander off, some of the guards may just take you as a enemy, and you would not want that to happen, I am afraid that they are very competent in shooting people." Well the guards would not really kill Mister Alvarez if they suspected him to be unauthorized, they would only maim him for life.

"A long time, I can sort of consider joining SHIELD a family tradition, my father also worked for SHIELD and its predecessor."
Patience's father did work for both SHIELD and the SSR, but at the same time, her father worked for HYDRA. Patience also worked for HYDRA, HYDRA was the way of the future, ti would bring order to a world of chaos. "THis job is a difficult one, sometimes it makes one doubt if they did they right thing, but in the end, it is the goal that matters and not what we do to achieve it." That was Patience's justification for her work, she knew that she had done alot of evil and morally dubious actions in both the name of SHIELD and HYDRA, but at the same time she knew her actions were done to create a better world.

He chuckled softly. A world of sunshine and rainbows did sound lovely, however, what was the meaning of life if it was just that? Nah, he enjoyed the occasional rain and thunderstorm. Those were exactly what made life interesting. Besides... sometimes those really made you appreciate all you got. Yes, sometimes he considered himself a lucky one. Of course he would never say that out loud, unless it did him good in a purpose.
“Rest assured... I know better than to wander off on my own.” Nick assured her, giving the attractive blond female a small, but honest glance. "I believe every job has moments like that. I sometimes wonder if I did the right thing, too. Especially after making a tough call. But you just can't let criminals get away with what they did, no matter what. However, sometimes the world isn't black and white."

His mind was taken off that thought anyway, when she answered his question. He didn't realise that SHIELD was around that long already, but then again, since it was a more secret organisation, he would have had to be a very smart one to know about them. But it made the possibility of joining that much more interesting. He could actually learn a lot here from what he's heard. And he could do a lot of good in his own way. At least he hoped that he would.
“That long, eh.” he commented casually. “Must be nice to have footsteps to follow into.”

"Having doubts will not help you in this job, if you have doubts on your actions you usually do not last too long in this line of work." Patience advised, as much as it seemed she hated people, she simply disliked most people but was perfectly willing to give advice to make people less annoying in her opinion.

"The world is indeed not in black or white, it is grey." Patience said with a hint of approval at what Alvarez had just said. Patience had seen too many people whom liked to think the world was in the black or white, in the end that naive line of thought just got themselves and others killed.

"I like that line of thought, but at the same time we may have to work with these so called criminals at times to prevent a greater threat to world security." Patience said with great pragmatism, good guys, bad guys in the end it really didn't matter. What mattered was the safety and stability of the world.

Patience was now approaching the gates of the base and walked over the guard on duty ordering them to open up the gate. Patience then turned around and waited for Mister Alvarez to get to the door and see him out of the base.

This Alvarez seemed like a relatively talented person, and thus Patience would hand in her recommendation that SHIELD should hire the man. Well Alvarez certainly seemed more talented than some of the other people currently under SHIELD's employ.

Let's love
SOMETIMES WE'RE TRAPPED IN A CIRCLE 'TIL WE'RE DIGGING WHOLES IN THE GROUND WE TRY BUT NOTHING IS WORKING BUT STILL I WANT YOU AROUND 'CAUSE IF I'M LOST IN THE DESERT I KNOW SOMEHOW YOU'LL FIND ME AND IF I DROWN IN THE OCEAN YOU'LL BE THE FIRST TO RESCUE ME EVERYBODY HURTS JUST A LITTLE TOO MUCH EVERYBODY HURTS BUT IT'S NEVER ENOUGH IT'S WONDERFUL TO FALL,
and risk it all

The Latino nodded in agreement to her words. It had been the same in his previous job as well. If had doubts about his choice of action it was always dangerous. Sometimes the actions you choose may not be the right actions, but it was always better to do something wrong if it meant you'd survive. Mistakes have to made in order to learn from them and survive. Of course, a wrong move could mean danger and death as well, but he usually trusted his gut in cases of fast decisions. It had never let him down so far. Nick didn't like to over analyse decisions and situations anyway. He was known for his quick thinking and intuitive actions. One of the reasons he was such a good agent, according to his Personnel file in Quantico.

“Well, sometimes even a criminal can do a good deed to the society he failed.” he then replied, after a small moment of thinking about it. He had to work with criminals in his career more than once. In fact, almost every agent had their Informants. They were criminals as well, just paid for the information that they'd give. Nick once had a CI as well, but that relationship did not last very long, because his CI was made in the end and had to pay with his life. It was something that sometimes came back to haunt him. There was always that thought that maybe he could've saved him, could've prevented that death, but he could not dwell on that thought, because it would only tear him down. It would send him down a road that he never wants to go down again.

Pushing that thought out of his mind, Nick got the door for them, gentleman that he was, he'd let her go first. While maybe he would have to keep a lock on certain traits in his personality in order to function as a SHIELD agent, there were some things that he would never let go of. Treating women with respect and care was one of them.
